HAIR IMPLANTATION – WHAT ARE YOUR OPTIONS?
A surgical procedure in which hair from one part of the body is removed and moved to a bald part of the body, under local anaesthesia referred to a hair implantation. This can be done by removing a single strip of skin and hair or by removing the follicles individually. This is considered as the best way to get more hair on your head.
There are two options for hair implantation:
- Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE): It is the process of removing a follicular unit with a small punch device by making a small round incision in the scalp. These extracted units are further treated under a microscope for refinement and quality control. The grafts are chilled and then re-inserted back into the scalp.
- Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT): It is the most commonly used hair restoration technique. A person’s natural hair is transplanted into balding areas. FUT is commonly used as it simplifies surgical planning, minimizes trauma to the scalp, ensures the naturalness of hair implantation, maximizes hair growth, and ability to perform large hair implantation sessions.
Nowadays, hair implantation technique is also used to restore eyebrows, eyelashes, beard hair, chest hair, pubic hair, and to fill in scars caused by accidents or surgery.
